CONSISTENCY: The Queen of long term success

Rest in peace your Majesty

For me, the Queen equaled consistency.

She was known for her ‘consistent’ sleep routine in order to stay healthy and fit (8,5 hours of sleep every night).

But she hadn’t just reigned for 70 years (wow, what a huge number) because she lived long, but because she also had the right mindset.

I mean, you can argue that Elizabeth was THE Queen so, she had no other choice than to be consistent but hey, she was also just human with good and bad days. She also struggled, didn’t she?

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about consistency in my own life because I really struggle to keep going.

Consistency is especially difficult in times when you don’t see any progress whatsoever. How disappointing is it to show up every day, keep pushing your limits, educate yourself, and do things out of your comfort zone and still not see any results, right? It literally feels like a really heavy punch in your stomach. You feel powerless and drained.

It’s very easy to believe that everything works out well when everything is going well.

But it’s real strength if you still can keep going when everything is not working in your favor.

Even though I might struggle these days, I’m beyond thankful (to myself) that over the years, I developed a habit I call ‘my safety buoy’.

Let me explain:

In times when many things might slip out of my hands and everything seems to go very bumpy, I try to be consistent in at least one thing in my life which keeps me ‘over the water.’ I concentrate on one little thing. It might be swapping a heavy meal with a healthy snack, sometimes it’s exercising for at least 10 minutes, or writing or reading a few pages. As long as I move the needle a few millimeters, it’s okay.

I get the feeling that I don’t lose connection and sight of the bigger picture I’m working towards.

When you’re in a rough sea, in order to survive, you don’t swim, you grab a safety buoy waiting for the storm to be over.

With hard work and consistency, I developed a growth mindset (Carol Dweck) that enables me to still push through even if I would rather give up. A growth mindset is what separates the wheat from the chaff.

In order to succeed in anything, you need to be consistent and you only become that with a growth mindset.

With this mindset:

  • You keep going no matter what.
  • You keep believing that seasons will change.
  • You know that in life everything is temporary.
  • You know that hard work will pay off one day.
  • You know that you can learn/unlearn anything that serves/doesn’t serve you.

Consistency is the Queen of long term success.

Thanks for reading.
